A Discussion of Various Base Styles for Your Dining Room Table

With so many choices available it can be difficult deciding on what style of dining table base best suits your needs. If you decide that four legs is the best choice for you, you must then decide what shape and style.  If a simple single pedestal is the perfect support for your round table top, how much, if any, carving details will you need.  And what is a trestle base?

Trestle Table

Let’s answer that question first.  A trestle table base is a frame that is modeled after railroad framework and designed to support a table top.  It consists of a horizontal piece supported by two vertical pieces at either end and connected with a linear stretcher.

While we are showing a very simple Shaker style, the trestle design can be as simple or as ornate as your design style dictates.  This table base style allows plenty of leg room to pull chairs up to the table for comfortable dining.

Legs

One would think that choosing a table style that has four legs would be a simple task.  But, like all design choices, you have many options.  First of all,  it is necessary to choose a leg style that enhances your interior decor and can support your table top.  Straight, tapered or curvy, carved or not, feet or no feet, these are just some of the choices you will have.  The four leg table base style can be used on a square, round or rectangular table top and on any table with extension leaves.

Pedestal Table Bases

With a pedestal style table base you can choose from either a single or double pedestal depending on the size and shape of your dining table.  A pedestal is simply a table top support item that can be round or square, carved or plain, painted or stained, wood or metal, legs or no legs–the options are limitless for this style table base.  We show just a couple of examples of different pedestal table bases showing various furniture design styles and table top shapes.

  1. Hello, I am interested in a single pedestal pub height oval table and two pub height chairs to match. Do you make those, and in what configuration for the oval table? What about the chairs, I did not see pub height chairs online. Also, is it possible to visit your factory or showroom? Thank you.
    Regards,
